Presentation of the Lord - Saturday, February 2nd
Forty days after a new mother gave birth, she  would enter the temple with her child, bringing an offering, to be cleansed by prayers.  This feast commemorates Mary’s  symbolic submission to that process, and also to the presentation of Jesus in the temple.

St. Agatha  - Feast day February 5th
Agatha is known mainly through legend.  She died during the time of the Decian persecution (249-251 AD).  In the Middle Ages, especially in southern Germany, bread, candles, fruit and letters were blessed in her name to ward off destruction by fire.  She is the patroness of miners, alpine guides and nurses.

YOU CAN HELP MARRIAGES and FAMILIES STAY TOGETHER!   By taking the Retrouvaille program married couples can learn to use practical communication tools to bring greater intimacy to their relationship. The spring program begins March 8-10.  For information about registering access their website at www.helpourmarriagecalgary.com or call 403-879-7893 if you have further questions.

Saturday, February 9th, mass is moved to 5:00 pm instead of 7:00
because of the Chinese New Year dinner.

3rd annual Chinese New Year Gala Fundraiser will be held Saturday, 9 Feb. 2019 at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy.  Celebrating the Year of the Pig.

Janette and her daughter Elisha are currently in Calgary with friends.  So we are in need of a team of Sacristans to help Father Nathan set up the Saturday and Sunday masses.  You would be required to come early Saturday evening at 6:15 pm or Sunday at 10:15 am.  Training provided.

Hospitality

For the first time in Canmore’s history, our Catholic Church will have a hall for gatherings in the new Shrine.  This is our opportunity to host parish and community events.  We are privileged to live in this beautiful part of Canada and as Christians will extend this privilege and welcome to visitors.  You can start by joining our Hospitality Group.  Our coffee gathering after the Sunday mass is in need to people to help set up or clean up after coffee.  Ask Ada about how you can help.
We are also in need of people to come early on Saturday evenings (6:15 pm) to help set up the chairs for weekend masses.

St. Thomas Aquinas Saint Day Jan. 28th
Born in 1225 AD, St. Thomas was an Italian, Dominican friar, Catholic priest, and Doctor of the Church. He was an immensely influential philosopher , theologian, and jurist  in the tradition of scholasticism, within which he is also known as the Doctor Angelicus and the Doctor Communis. The name Aquinas identifies his ancestral origins in the county of Aquino in present-day  Lazio, Italy.

Announcements:

St. Anthony the Abbot  Saint Day Jan. 17th
Also known as Anthony the Great, Anthony of Egypt and Anthony of the Desert he was a hermit and Father of Monks from 251 AD.  Most of what is known about Saint Anthony comes from the Life of Anthony. Written in Greek around 360 by Athanasius of Alexandria, it depicts Anthony as an illiterate and holy man who through his existence in a primordial landscape has an absolute connection to the divine truth, which always is in harmony with that of Athanasius as the biographer.
