Ash Wednesday will be March 6th this year.  The mass at the school will be at 9:00 am, we will have the usual 12:15 pm mass at the office and Banff’s Ash Wednesday mass will be at 7:00 pm.  If you cannot make any of these, Father Nathan will be at the Parish office 5:00 to 7:00 pm to bestow ashes and be available for confessions as well.
The rules for abstinence and fasting on Ash Wednesday are as follows:  Catholics aged 14 and older are to abstain from meat.  Catholics aged 18 to 59 are to fast.  Fasting is eating one complete meal that day.  You are permitted to have two incomplete meals that day which combined do not constitute a complete meal.  Another way to think of it is two small snacks and one complete meal.  Those with medical conditions like diabetes, pregnant mothers and those with physically demanding jobs, ie. Construction, are exempt from fasting.
Fridays during Lent are days that people either abstain from eating meat or offer some other penitential practice or work of charity.
