Symbolon: Knowing the Faith explains the essentials of the Catholic Faith in a way that will inform our minds and inspire our hearts. Too often we try to live a faith we don’t know or understand. Some of us stumble along with it, going through the motions. Others simply walk away.
A 10 session program beginning January 29, 2020 at 6:30 pm at the parish office for the men of our parish. The sessions will be presented every second and fourth Wednesdays.
Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys January 12th
Marguerite is often referred to as the ‘Mother of the Colony’ for her contributions to the establishment of Ville-Marie, the place we know today as Montreal.
Born in France in 1620, Marguerite crossed the Atlantic in 1653 to join in the colonizing efforts begun by Monsieur de Maisonneuve. Her mandate was to develop educational opportunities for aboriginal children and for the families of the French settlers in Ville-Marie.
Marguerite received the help of Jeanne Mance, founder of the Hotel-Dieu Hospital. Other women joined her and the group formed an institute of uncloistered sisters, the Congregation of Notre-Dame.
Marguerite was well loved. She died in 1700 at the age of 80 and was declared a saint on October 31, 1982. In 1997, archaeologists uncovered the foundation of the chapel Marguerite built in Ville-Marie 325 years earlier. Marguerite is a patron saint of poor people.
Become a "Friend of Our Lady of the Rockies”.
a donation of $1000 or more
to the building fund, will put you on the Friends Register.
As we look forward to the opening of the new Shrine Church of Our Lady of the Rockies in Spring 2020, we have begun a new fundraising campaign called "Friends of Our Lady of the Rockies." We are inviting individuals and families to make a donation of $1000 or more and be known as a Friend of the new shrine church. It is our hope that if 1000 individuals or families give $1,000 or more before the opening of the new shrine church, then we will raise one million dollars to pay for three important items in the new building. These items include the Pews, where we will sit to listen to the Word of God at Mass and during silent prayer, and where we will kneel to adore our Eucharistic Lord. The second item is the Parish Hall, where we will gather as a community to build fellowship and look to support the needs of our local community. Finally, as Friends we will pay for the three bells in our Bell Tower, that when rung will call us to times of prayer and serve as a beacon of hope in the Bow Valley that God is present in the beauty of His creation. FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Come Thou, long-expected Jesus. Excite in me the joy and love and peace it is right to bring to the manger of my Lord. Raise in me, too, sober reverence for the God who acted there, hearty gratitude for the life begun there, and spirited resolution to serve the Father and Son.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose advent I hail. Amen
JESUS CHRIST KING OF THE UNVERSE
"If to Christ our Lord is given all power in heaven and on earth; if all men, purchased by his precious blood, are by a new right subjected to his dominion; if this power embraces all men, it must be clear that not one of our faculties is exempt from his empire. He must reign in our minds, which should assent with perfect submission and firm belief to revealed truths and to the doctrines of Christ. He must reign in our wills, which should obey the laws and precepts of God. He must reign in our hearts, which should spurn natural desires and love God above all things, and cleave to him alone. He must reign in our bodies and in our members, which should serve as instruments for the interior sanctification of our souls, or to use the words of the Apostle Paul, as instruments of justice unto God."
Pope Pius XI
