CHALICE is extremely important during these uncertain times. The poor we serve have been deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Border closures, job losses, and food shortages are disproportionately affecting the poorest in our global community, many of whom already face dire circumstances on the best of days. Witnessing for the poor provides a message that Catholics need to hear, and we believe that our message is important not only to encourage living discipleship but also to enlighten one’s faith journey.

Due to ongoing COVID restrictions, a 24-hour event is not feasible but instead a number of Holy Hours are being scheduled. These Holy Hours will offer times for both silent prayer and communal devotional prayers such as the Holy Rosary, the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, various Litanies and other devotional prayers both familiar and unknown.
People's lives today are often busy and challenging. Stage 1 of the Hearts Afire Parish-based Program (on Formed.org) offers individuals a quick and easy way to withdraw from the demands of daily life and enter into a peaceful interior reflection on their relationship with Christ in the context of Marian devotion. We begin with the Immaculate Heart because Mary leads us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The end result is that, by learning to entrust ourselves to the Mother of Our Lord, we can discover a transforming trust in Jesus himself.
BOOK STUDY: ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA - SETTING THE WORLD ABLAZE. In her mere 33 years she left such a rich legacy that she is named a Doctor of the Church. She is best known for The Dialogue, a book of meditations and revelations in which she shares intimate conversations with God. She used her ‘feminine genius’ to address the problems the world presented her and her words will ring as true today as when she first exhorted fellow Christians: “Be who you are called to be and you will set the world ablaze!” Study will begin two weeks from now. The book club will meet at the church (if we are less than 10). Let Marta know what day is best for you. If you are interested in joining this study group, please contact Marta Bartley at martabartley@hotmail.ca.
