The rules for abstinence and fasting on Ash Wednesday are as follows: Catholics aged 14 and older are to abstain from meat. Catholics aged 18 to 59 are to fast. Fasting is eating one complete meal that day. You are permitted to have two incomplete meals that day which combined do not constitute a complete meal. Another way to think of it is two small snacks and one complete meal. Those with medical conditions like diabetes, pregnant mothers and those with physically demanding jobs, ie. Construction, are exempt from fasting. Fridays during Lent are days that people either abstain from eating meat or offer some other penitential practice or work of charity.
CONSIDERING SEPARATION OR DIVORCE? – Some marriage counsellors suggest to married couples that they attend the Retrouvaille program as a last recourse prior to filing for divorce because they have heard about the success of the methods of communication taught in this program. The spring program begins on the weekend of March 8-10. For confidential information call 403-879-7893. To register for the program, go to the link on their website at www.helpourmarriagecalgary.com.
